NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION - GREENLAND RESEARCH FACILITY
Buffalo Hydraulic has been awarded a contract to design and build a hydraulic jacking system that will be used to raise a National Science Foundation (NSF) research facility 26′ utilizing 20 jacking points.
Because of the extreme arctic conditions, the snow & ice pack at this location never melts. After many years of continued accumulation, the research facility needed to be raised 26′ to remain above the snow pack.
A custom built Buffalo Hydraulic Uni-lifting System equipped with two 1,500 watt oil heaters provided a controlled synchronous lifting of the building @20 points!
The project site is located several hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle situated atop Greenland’s 10,496′ ice cap.
At 248 miles to the nearest point of land, this was an extremely remote location subject to severe arctic conditions.
The project was a huge success and was completed safely and one week ahead of schedule. With 24 hours of daylight and temperatures ranging from 0-10 degrees in mid July, this was definitely an extreme location!
