SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY CARRIER DOME
Recently, a drone videographer captured the progress at Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome. A project we are proudly involved with! With completion estimated for 2022, the renovations to the Carrier Dome include replacing the current roof with a fixed, partially translucent roof, as well as the installation of air conditioning.
The video features the structural steel portion of the stadium upgrade. Buffalo Hydraulic was contracted with supplying the hydraulic system to tension the cabling that will support the membrane roof. This is a task now completed, which you can view in the second half of the video.
Stadium roofs that we’ve been involved with incorporate a highly engineered framework of steel cables that serve to support the membrane covering. Tensioning usually runs into the 1,000’s of tons.
On a simple level and in concept, it would be comparable to running a clothesline between two poles and then hanging laundry. If the clothesline and poles were engineered with a tension value, there would be no sag when the weight of wet laundry is applied.
We’re very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this super stadium project and wish to express our thankfulness to Syracuse Unversity.
