Devil’s Bathtub – Spearfish Canyon – Lead, South Dakota.
The Black Hills offer an incredible variety of hikes, from short, easy treks to long, challenging, rock scrambling adventures, and every one delivers unforgettable scenery.
One of Spearfish Canyon’s most unique adventures is Devil’s Bathtub. This trail follows Cleopatra Creek through a beautiful canyon to a naturally carved rock waterslide that dumps into a pristine swimming hole known as Devil’s Bathtub. While the origin of the name remains a mystery, the hike itself is great fun, requiring six creek crossings as the canyon walls twist and narrow along the route.
Towering rock formations rise above the creek bed, creating stunning views throughout the hike. The crystal-clear water is also home to a healthy population of native rainbow and brown trout, which are easy to spot and fun to watch.
We’re thrilled to share more of these adventures – experiences that have inspired us, strengthened our faith, and shown us the awe-inspiring beauty of the world around us.
Our hope is that these journeys will inspire and uplift you, and maybe even spark a few adventures of your own!
